Working at a health club or leisure centre, a Yoga Teacher conducts regular yoga
classes for groups and individuals, working with postures (asanas), movement, breathing
and awareness for exercise, relaxation, health and meditation. As a Yoga Teacher
you'll design course and lesson plans, teach a wide range of yoga asanas and breathing
techniques, and assess students' progress. You may also work with one or many 'styles'
of yoga, placing an emphasis on physical exercise, relaxation, or visualisation
To work as a Yoga Teacher you'll need to be trained and experienced in Pilates fitness
applications and have experience of movement and exercise work. Certification is
not essential but desirable, and certification programmes cover training in a range
of Pilates practices, including mat and equipment-based components. (Courses that
include entry into the Register of Exercise Professionals will improve your chances
of employment.) As a Yoga Teacher you should be patient, caring, professional, interested
in people and able to motivate individuals and groups.
