Pool Assistant / Lifeguard

A Pool Assistant in a health club or leisure centre is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and chemical balance of the establishment's swimming pools (and possibly associated facilities such as jacuzzis). Your duties may overlap with those of a pool lifeguard to include first aid, swimming rescue and resuscitation techniques.

You'll need to be fit and a strong swimmer. You'll need to be familiar with the mechanics of a pool's chemical balance and understand how to monitor and adjust this. For lifeguard work you'll need either a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification or the National Aquatic Rescue Standard: Pool Lifeguard qualification, both of which are recognised internationally. Some experience of lifesaving work would also be beneficial.
