Pilates Teacher

A Pilates Teacher in a health club or leisure centre is responsible for instructing guests in the practice of Pilates. You'll consult with clients to determine their particular strengths and weaknesses, then create and personally deliver a course of training exercises to develop body awareness, increase the strength of the body's core muscles, realign the body's structure and balance the entire musculo-skeletal system.

To work as a Pilates teacher you'll need to be trained and experienced in Pilates fitness applications and have experience of movement and exercise work. Certification is not essential but desirable, and certification programmes cover training in a range of Pilates practices, including mat and equipment-based components. (Courses that include entry into the Register of Exercise Professionals will improve your chances of employment.) As a Pilates teacher you should be patient, caring, professional, interested in people and able to motivate individuals and groups.
