Set in the quiet rural village of St Issey, near Padstow, on the North Cornish Coast, The Manor House Activity & Development Centre provides exclusive activity holidays for prep schools, hen parties, families and businesses.
It is also a recognised centre of excellence for it's Outdoor Instructor Training Program, which has successfully been running for 7 years.
The Centre has successfully been providing holidays and courses for 25 years and has been under the current ownership for the last 12 years. The owners, Lesley & Steve Kirk, play active roles in the day to day running of the Centre, with Steve the Chief Instructor and Course Director. During the last 12 years the company has grown significantly and now has a strong customer base who return year after year.
The Centre is AALA Licensed and BCU Approved and has membership of both Institute for Outdoor Learning and British Activity Providers Association.
Groups of up to 64 can be accommodated at the magnificent 18th Century Manor House, which provides luxurious accommodation and wonderful home cooked meals. There is a Spa Pool in the garden for adult use and all the company vehicles are new and of high specification. Capital is invested each year to maintain the high standard of the accommodation and activity equipment, which is renewed and regularly maintained.
Each itinerary is tailored to individual group's requirements, providing varied and exciting weeks for the staff team and clients a like.
What we offer
All the activities take place at exciting venues away from the centre at local surfing beaches, cycle trails, sailing venues and especially, an outstanding secluded cove for the sea cliff climbing, second to none as a venue for students from age 6 upwards to learn the rudiments of climbing!
Visits are also made to venues such as Eden Project, National Maritime Museum Cornwall, Blue reef Aquarium and The Tate Gallery St Ives, where the Instructors are encouraged to take an active role in the educational value of the visits along side the tour guides.
Many of the Evening activities also take place away from the centre and include, crab fishing, beach games, group dynamics, field team games and beach bonfires, when the Instructors lead a variety of sessions, using their personalities and flair to individualise each session with the aim of giving the 'Wow!' factor to every group.
Our team is small and everyone plays an important role, and therefore the potential for development as an Instructor is remarkable; our permanent team of Freelance Instructors and the Management Team are committed to individual development and will offer advice / coaching and instruction as necessary to improve individual performance.
We select our seasonal team through selection weekends where prospective instructors demonstrate their abilities in climbing and kayaking and complete papers on First Aid and Group Management as a Training Needs Analysis (so that we can see what training they'll need during induction!). Candidates also perform a timed swim (400m) and timed run (5.2km) so that prospective trainees for NARS Beach Lifeguard Training can be identified, which we offer at the beginning of the season.
Our Instructor team also need to drive minibuses and if they do not hold the DVLA PCV driving licence, will need to take the relevant driving test. We will arrange the training as soon as employment begins, but instructors are expected to start the process of applying for the licence and gaining the theory test prior to the start date.
Working for us
Attractive salary packages are offered, with a pay scale that reflects instructor qualifications and abilities; we also have a staff bonus scheme.
If you feel that you are ready for this challenge and have the necessary drive, determination and personality to add to the team, we would love to hear from you!
