Foxlease, Hampshire

£7.38 per hour + subsidised accommodation + training




Girlguiding is currently recruiting for Seasonal Activity Instructors from March/April 2015 until September/October 2015 at our Training and Activity Centre – Foxlease (Hampshire) – and this role will report to the Assistant Manager of the site.

As an Activity Instructor you will be responsible for assisting with the planning of training sessions and instructing groups of all ages in a range of activities, which may include canoeing, kayaking and rock climbing, as well as ensuring that equipment is maintained and stored in line with defined standards. You will be testing equipment prior to use, and at regular intervals, to ensure safe and effective operation.

Please note that the core hours are 20 hours per week and are flexible in line with the business needs of the centres. However, as our Training and Activity Centres are open seven days a week, you may be required to work mornings, weekends and bank holidays and during peak times, additional hours may be available.


You must have two NGB qualifications or a recognised equivalent (BCU/UKCC Level 1 or higher, Girlguiding Climb and Abseil Level 1 or higher, CWA assessed, SPA assessed or GNAS Archery Leader Award) or significant experience along with the ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative. If you do not fulfil these criteria, please consider applying for the role of Trainee Activity Instructor.

Girlguiding is the largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women in the UK, with more than half of the female population involved at some point in their lives.

We are looking for seasonal Trainee Activity Instructors, Activity Instructors and General Assistants for our Training and Activity Centres.

You would be located at one of our three sites - Blackland Farm in West Sussex, Foxlease in the New Forest, Hampshire and Waddow Hall in Clitheroe, Lancashire. Activities which are run at our sites include Abseiling, canoeing, zip wire, orienteering, kayaking, archery, low ropes and swimming to name but a few.

If you are outgoing, adventurous, fancy a challenge and would like to spend your summer outdoors, running activities, gaining qualifications, keeping our sites in working order and making lots of friends in the process then this is the job for you.

Assessment days will be held on the following dates shown below for shortlisted applicants. Each of these days are open to applicants for any of the three centres.  Please note, if you wish to work at Foxlease, you will need to attend one of the following selection days  

  • Foxlease (Hampshire) - Saturday 14 February 2015
  • Waddow Hall (Lancashire) – Sunday 22 February 2015 and Sunday 29 March 2015
Please note that it is not Girlguiding’s policy to reimburse applicants in respect of travel expenses to attend interviews. However, accommodation may be available for shortlisted applicants, please ask if this is required.
